Whether you start in the summer, fall, or spring, New Student Orientation is ready to welcome you and prepare you for a successful transition to LU!

New Student Orientation is specifically designed for new college students. You'll receive all the information you need to feel confident when you step on campus for your first day of class!

Orientation includes information about student services, academic life, academic advising, and receiving your class schedule. It's also a great way to make friends, start building your on-campus community, and have FUN!

Lamar University offers Orientation for all incoming freshmen and transfer undergraduate students.

Spring Orientation

Spring Orientation is open to all new freshmen and transfer students and is a short introduction to LU and everything you need to be success while attending Lamar.

If you are an incoming student planning to begin classes at Lamar University in the spring, you can register for and attend an Orientation session in January. Click here to register.

You will discover the incredible opportunities that await you at Lamar University, interact with other future Cardinals, meet your advisor and register for classes for your first semester as a student, and sign-up for any extracurricular activities and organizations.

Transfer Students

What is a Transfer Student?

  • Transfer students are undergraduate students who attended another college or university.
  • You have 18 or more credit hours transferring to Lamar University.
  • College credits earned while enrolled in high school does not mean you're a transfer student.

Transfer students are strongly encouraged to attend Orientation.

New Student Convocation

New Student Convocation, held each August, is designed to establish connection between new undergraduate students and Lamar University. Come see what Dr. Jaime Taylor, President of the University, has to say about your experience at LU. Dr. Taylor will share his vision for your future as a student and member of Cardinal Nation.

New Student Convocation provides students with an opportunity to gather with their classmates as they join the Cardinal community. This event that begins the journey to graduation, and both events are significant milestones at the beginning and the end of your undergraduate experience.
